Local Assembly Drives Truck Sales in Egypt Up 22.7% in 8 Months
Truck sales in Egypt rose 22.7% in the first eight months of 2026 to 21,852 units. Locally assembled trucks grew 16.1% to 18,719 vehicles, while imported trucks surged 85.4% to 3,133 units. The growth reflects a growing shift toward domestic manufacturing to meet commercial vehicle demand.
Truck sales in Egypt climbed 22.7% in the first eight months of 2026, reaching 21,852 units compared to 17,812 in the same period last year. The figures, released by the Automotive Market Information Council (AMIC), show that locally assembled trucks were the main engine behind this growth.
Locally Assembled Trucks Lead the Surge
Sales of locally assembled trucks jumped 16.1% to 18,719 vehicles during the period, up from 16,122 units a year earlier. That number represents the bulk of the market, reflecting a clear shift toward domestic manufacturing and reduced reliance on imports in the commercial vehicle segment.
The rise didn't happen in a vacuum. Expanding local production lines and cheaper parts availability helped lower operating costs for fleet operators, a critical factor in a sector defined by tight profit margins.
Imported Trucks Post Even Bigger Percentage Gain
Imported trucks of all categories surged 85.4% to 3,133 units, compared to 1,690 in the same period. While the absolute number remains small next to locally assembled units, the growth rate signals renewed demand for imported models with specialized specs or higher operational capabilities.
What does this mean for the market? The commercial sector is moving faster than expected, driven by infrastructure needs and logistics projects. Trucks are no longer just cargo movers — they're part of a broader economic system.
Growth Outlook Remains Strong
With national road and new city projects continuing, demand for trucks looks set to stay strong through the rest of 2026. Local assembly offers pricing and delivery advantages, while imports fill specific gaps that domestic lines don't yet cover.
The numbers don't lie. Egypt's truck market is growing steadily, and local assembly is the biggest player in that equation — but imports are proving they have a place too, with growth nearly double.
