Chinese automotive brands have continued to solidify their position in the Egyptian car market during the first half of this year, recording strong growth in registration and sales volumes. This growth was driven by the expansion of locally assembled models, intensified price competition, and increased dealer investments in distribution networks and after-sales services, reshaping the competitive landscape among companies operating in the Egyptian market.

Sharp Rise in Registration Numbers

Vehicle registration data showed that the number of licensed Chinese cars surpassed 48,700 units during the first half of 2026, compared to 28,900 units during the same period last year, achieving a growth rate of 68 percent. This notable increase reflects a growing shift among consumers toward Chinese cars, which offer a blend of modern technology and competitive pricing.

Market Share Climbs to 41 Percent

Meanwhile, the market share of Chinese cars rose to approximately 41 percent of total market sales during the first four months of this year, with sales reaching 20,393 units, compared to a 38.9 percent share totaling 13,221 units during the comparable period in 2025. This steady progress demonstrates the continued shift of consumers toward this vehicle category, which has become a key part of Egypt's automotive landscape.

Changes in Chinese Brand Rankings

Registration data revealed a clear shift in brand rankings, with MG topping the market for the first time with a total of 10,007 cars, surpassing Chery, which came in second with 8,947 units, despite continued sales growth compared to last year. Jetour maintained third place with 7,460 registrations, while Soueast took fourth place with 5,349 units, marking one of the market's biggest surprises, as it was not among the top Chinese brands during the same period last year.

Notable Leaps and Declines

Changan made one of the biggest leaps, moving from ninth to fifth place with 3,618 cars, while brands such as BAIC, BYD, and JAC saw their rankings drop despite registering growth in license numbers. These shifts reflect the dynamic nature of the Egyptian market, where positions constantly change based on marketing strategies and local assembly efforts.
