As the Eid Al-Adha 2026 holiday approaches and the road-trip season begins, thousands of families are preparing for long-distance travel by car. However, rising temperatures and increased vehicle workload can quickly turn a pleasant journey into a stressful experience due to unexpected mechanical issues.

Automotive experts continue to stress the importance of carrying out a comprehensive vehicle inspection before traveling, while also understanding the most common breakdowns and how to handle them quickly to avoid unexpected stops and disrupted journeys.

Tire Blowouts Remain a Leading Travel Hazard

Damaged or blown tires are among the most common problems drivers encounter during long trips. In many cases, the issue is linked to incorrect tire pressure, driving on unpaved roads, or using tires that have exceeded their service life.

To reduce the risk, drivers are advised to check tire pressure and overall tire condition before departure. Keeping a usable spare tire in the vehicle is essential, while a portable air compressor or tire repair kit can be especially useful on long-distance or desert routes.

Battery Failure Can Bring a Trip to a Halt

Weak or suddenly failing batteries are another frequent travel-related issue, particularly when the battery is old or has not been inspected before the trip. Problems may result from leaving interior or exterior lights on for extended periods or simply reaching the battery's expected lifespan.

For that reason, drivers should ensure the battery is in good condition and fully charged before traveling, while also carrying emergency jumper cables in the vehicle.

Engine Overheating During Summer Travel

With temperatures rising during the holiday and summer season, engine overheating becomes a common concern that can lead to a complete vehicle shutdown if ignored. The problem is often caused by low coolant levels or a fault within the cooling system.

If the engine temperature rises, drivers should stop immediately in a safe location, switch off the vehicle, and allow the engine to cool before checking the coolant level and adding water if necessary.

Brake Performance Should Never Be Overlooked

Reduced braking efficiency is one of the most serious issues that can threaten passenger safety during travel, especially on highways. This is commonly caused by degraded brake fluid or worn brake pads, making it essential not to ignore any unusual sounds or warning signs coming from the braking system.
