One year after introducing hands-free driving technology to its luxury sedan, the Lucid Air, American electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid has decided to bring this advanced feature to its SUV, the Lucid Gravity. The move strengthens the company's position in the race toward autonomous driving technologies.

Exceptional Off-Road Driving Experience

During a real-world test of the new Lucid Gravity equipped with hands-free driving technology two months ago, the SUV demonstrated remarkable performance on rough terrain. According to Car and Driver magazine, the Gravity glided with a smoothness surpassing almost any other vehicle on the market, whether passenger car, truck, or SUV. All programs controlling power distribution and torque, along with data collected by the anti-lock braking system and traction control, made the driving experience both thrilling and unique.

Advanced Sensor and Camera Systems

Current Lucid Air vehicles equipped with the Dream Drive system feature 20 sensor and camera units. Those with Dream Drive Premium come with 24 sensor and camera units. Upgrading to Dream Drive Pro gives current Air models the latest level of Lucid's advanced driver-assistance systems, with semi-autonomous driving features. These include all Dream Drive Premium features plus the hands-free driving assist system, which represents Lucid's Level 2 advanced driver-assistance system.

Fully Loaded Lucid Gravity

The Lucid Gravity tested last April was equipped with 12 external cameras, two internal cameras, five radar units, and one lidar sensor to cover the entire vehicle perimeter. Although the vehicle was equipped and certified only for Level 2 autonomous driving, Lucid stated that the Gravity is technically capable of Level 3 autonomous driving.

Dream Drive 2 Pro Update

Lucid has announced the launch of an over-the-air update for Dream Drive 2 Pro, adding hands-free driving capability along with improvements to the navigation system, charging experience, and daily usability. Although Lucid has not officially announced Level 3 autonomous driving, the ability to drive without holding the steering wheel represents a major leap forward for the Gravity, boosting its competitiveness against industry giants like Tesla and Mercedes.
