Honda Launches Trail Experience App with Apple CarPlay Integration for Off-Road Adventures
Japanese automaker Honda Motor has launched a new application called "Honda Trail Experience" (HTX), designed specifically for drivers of Trail Sport off-road vehicles. The app allows users to view and extract real-time data from their vehicles while driving on rugged terrain, adding a new technological dimension to off-road adventures.
Advanced Technical Features
The app is compatible with Trail Sport Pilot, Passport, and CR-V models, and is available for free on the App Store. It collects data from 11 sensor points in the vehicle, including tire rotation angle, tire tilt, deviation, accelerator pedal position, brake pressure, engine temperature, and outside temperature. The app also records altitude, latitude, and longitude to create interactive route maps that can be saved for later reference.
Seamless Apple CarPlay Integration
Drivers can display up to six data points simultaneously on their vehicle's infotainment screen via Honda Apple CarPlay. The HTX app also features a video recording function that allows drivers to control their iPhone cameras from inside the vehicle. Users can mount their phones anywhere within the car's Bluetooth range, whether inside or outside, and record videos or capture still images via the Trail Sport touchscreen. When ready to share their adventures, drivers can export videos and photos with route map overlays and performance data directly from the app.
Developed with Owner Input and Expert Testing
Omar Saleh, project manager for HTX at Honda, stated that the app was developed with contributions from over 1,500 owners of the 2026 Honda Passport Trail Sport. He noted that the app is designed to help users "drive with confidence and enjoy every adventure." Honda reported testing the app with a group of off-road drivers of varying skill levels, from beginners to experts, on a closed course last January.
Future Expansion Plans
Updates will be released soon to address feedback received during the beta testing phase. Honda engineers also plan to expand the app's features and develop a version for the Android operating system in the future, broadening the potential user base and further enhancing the off-road driving experience.
