GM Brings 7-Inch Touchscreens to Vans in 2027
After years of bare-bones tech, General Motors is finally bringing touchscreens to its iconic vans — the Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana. It's a long-overdue shift. America's largest automaker plans to equip these workhorses with a modern infotainment system, marking a major change for drivers used to minimalist setups.
A Familiar Option Returns
The new system isn't entirely new to GM. The automaker first offered it on its trucks back in 2019 as a paid add-on, but the option lasted just one year before being discontinued. Since then, Express and Savana owners made do with a basic radio, twin speakers, an MP3 player, an AUX cable. A USB port — with Bluetooth available only as a costly extra.
What We Know So Far
According to automotive outlet Car and Driver, the 2027 models will feature a 7-inch touchscreen running GM's infotainment system 3 — an older version used across GM vehicles since 2020. The only confirmed feature is Bluetooth phone pairing, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility remain unconfirmed for the upcoming display. That leaves room for speculation about smartphone integration, but the basics are finally here.
The tech upgrade extends to audio as well. The Crew Van package will now include four speakers instead of two in passenger and light-duty variants. But cargo, chassis, and cab models still make do with just two speakers, signaling a focus on passenger comfort rather than utility-focused upgrades.
It's a response to market expectations, though delayed. Drivers of full-size vans have waited years for modern amenities, and 2027 finally delivers. Whether the system includes more features remains to be seen, but the move brings GM's vans in line with the rest of its lineup.
