Cairo University Team Passes Shell Eco-Marathon Technical Inspection

The Cairo University Eco Racing Team became the first Egyptian, Arab, and African team to successfully pass the technical inspection for the autonomous vehicle category of the Shell Eco-Marathon competition held in Poland. The team consists of 120 students, all of whom contributed to designing and building the competition vehicle entirely on their own while relying on artificial intelligence technologies and autonomous driving systems. The achievement highlights the team's engineering capabilities and its commitment to developing advanced racing vehicle solutions.

Strong Energy Efficiency Results in International Competition

The same team previously secured fourth place in the 2026 Shell Eco-Marathon competition in Qatar. During that event, its vehicle recorded a fuel consumption rate of one liter per 95.5 km in the Experimental Gasoline Urban Concept category. The team also achieved an electricity consumption figure of one kilowatt per 104.8 km in the Prototype Electric category, demonstrating the efficiency of the vehicle's engineering design and energy management throughout the international competition.

Ain Shams University Enters Formula Student with an Egyptian-Built EV

Egyptian participation is not limited to Cairo University. Ain Shams University is also competing in the international Formula Student competition at Silverstone Circuit in England with a Formula-style electric race car designed entirely in Egypt. Although Egyptian teams have participated in the international competition before, this marks the first participation with a fully Egyptian-designed electric Formula car, representing another milestone for local engineering talent and electric racing vehicle development.

Together, these achievements demonstrate the expanding role of Egyptian universities in advancing automotive engineering through projects focused on electric vehicles, autonomous driving technologies, artificial intelligence, and energy efficiency.
