Egyptian and French Ministers Inspect the Mega-Project
The numbers tell a compelling story: 1,000 direct jobs and 2,000 indirect opportunities already created. Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir, accompanied by his French counterpart Philippe Tabarot and French Ambassador Éric Chevallier, toured the site to assess progress and discuss the next phases. Both officials emphasized the urgency of accelerating work on the second factory to begin operations as soon as possible and maximize production capacity.
Two Factories with Advanced Manufacturing Capabilities
The complex comprises two main factories with entirely different missions. The first, dedicated to electrical systems production, occupies 13 feddans and has reached 77% completion, with a target finish date of November 2026. The second and larger facility spans 27 feddans and will manufacture various rolling stock, including metro trains, trams, light rail transit (LRT) vehicles, monorails, and high-speed trains.
Strategic Importance for Egypt's Economy and Exports
Will this project remain confined to the domestic market? Far from it, according to the Egyptian minister. The complex represents a strategic step in the state's plan to localize railway and metro manufacturing, reduce import dependency. Preserve foreign currency reserves.
