Subaru Discontinues Gas-Powered Crosstrek, Goes Hybrid-Only for 2027
Japanese automaker Subaru has made a decisive and environmentally driven move by discontinuing the gasoline-powered version of the Crosstrek, its second best-selling model after the larger Forester. Starting with the 2027 model year, the Crosstrek will be offered exclusively as a hybrid, marking a significant shift toward more fuel-efficient technology.
2027 Crosstrek Hybrid Pricing and Trims
Subaru has announced pricing for the new Crosstrek hybrid lineup, with the base trim starting at $28,470. The Crosstrek Wilderness trim begins at $35,270, while the top-tier Crosstrek Limited Hybrid starts at $37,470. In contrast, the discontinued gasoline version had a starting price of $32,075, making the hybrid variants competitively priced while offering superior efficiency and power.
Enhanced Performance and Interior Features
The new hybrid powertrain delivers 197 horsepower, offering stronger performance and lower fuel consumption than the outgoing gasoline engine. The base hybrid trim, priced from $35,470, costs just $3,395 more than the old gas version. It features fabric seats with distinctive yellow stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and synthetic carbon fiber interior accents. The cabin also includes a fully digital instrument cluster, a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a retractable cargo cover, and a wireless charging pad for mobile devices.
Additional Equipment and New Colors
The Limited Hybrid trim adds a standard power moonroof to the list of features. Subaru is also introducing a new exterior color for the next-generation Crosstrek: Sapphire Blue Pearl. Meanwhile, Flame Red replaces Pure Red and Lithium Red Pearl on hybrid models only, and Lagoon Blue Pearl substitutes Alpine Green across all trims, giving the lineup a fresh and modern appearance.
Market Launch Timeline
The 2027 Crosstrek Hybrid is expected to arrive in showrooms this coming fall, positioning Subaru among the automakers accelerating their transition to cleaner energy. With these updates, the Japanese brand offers enthusiasts a compact crossover that blends power, efficiency, and advanced technology, making it a compelling option in the global automotive market.
