The Egyptian automotive market is anticipating the local debut of a brand-new model: the MG RX9, a plug-in hybrid seven-seat SUV. Known internationally as the Roy RX9, this midsize SUV is produced by SAIC Motor and first appeared in 2022. It features a bolder design than previous MG models, with a large trapezoidal grille, slim LED daytime running lights, a full-width rear light bar, and a sleek sloping roofline.

Dimensions, Cargo Space, and Interior Room

The MG RX9 measures 4,983 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2,915 mm, a width of 1,967 mm, and a height of 1,786 mm. It offers a rear cargo area with an electric tailgate and a capacity of 1,026 liters. These dimensions place it among the larger midsize SUVs, providing extensive space for families.

Hybrid Powertrain and Electric Range

The MG RX9 is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine paired with an electric motor in a plug-in hybrid configuration. It uses a 24.7 kWh battery that delivers an all-electric range of 100 km. Combined with the combustion engine, the total driving range reaches 1,100 km. The system produces a combined output of 295 hp and 390 Nm of torque, matched to a DHT transmission.

Safety Ratings and Driver Assistance Systems

The MG RX9 achieved a 5-star safety rating from Euro NCAP, thanks to its comprehensive ADAS suite including 360-degree cameras. This places it among the safest vehicles in its segment, with advanced driver assistance features.

Key Features Expected in the Egyptian Market

Externally, the SUV rides on distinctive 20-inch alloy wheels. Inside, it offers front seats with massage, ventilation, and heating functions, electric adjustment, and driver seat memory. It features a 25-inch display system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ambient interior lighting, and a wireless phone charger. A 12-speaker Bose sound system is also available, though MG has not yet confirmed which features will make it to the Egyptian market.
