Mercedes Reveals Limited G-Class Edition That Defies Time with 1980s Throwback
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled a very special, limited edition of its iconic G-Class, dubbed the G-Class Edition STRONGER THAN THE 1980s. This is not merely a commemorative version; it is a genuine tribute to the roots of the vehicle that forged its legendary reputation in deserts across the globe and became an icon of off-road capability since the 1980s.
Limited Production for Collectors
The company confirmed that only 460 units of this edition will be produced worldwide, making it one of the rarest G-Class variants ever. This extremely low production run gives the vehicle exceptional value for collectors and classic car enthusiasts, especially as it masterfully blends classic character with the latest modern technologies offered by Mercedes today.
Design Details Inspired by 1980s Desert Vehicles
The new edition retains the iconic boxy lines that have defined the G-Class for decades but enriches them with a host of design cues directly inspired by 1980s off-roaders. Key exterior features include a black front grille, headlamps with protective grilles, and classic orange side turn signals. It also rides on five-spoke alloy wheels with a heritage design, features a classic-style rear spare tire cover, a rear badge inspired by older models, and the historic Mercedes emblem on the hood.
Adventure-Ready Equipment and a Dual-Personality Cabin
To enhance its desert explorer persona, the edition can be equipped with a roof rack, a rear ladder, and mud flaps, along with dedicated off-road equipment. Inside, the cabin blends past and present, retaining the latest Mercedes technology such as digital displays and advanced driver-assistance systems, while adding classic touches like plaid fabric upholstery. The cabin is also adorned with the phrase "Stronger Than The 1980s" as a clear nod to the historical inspiration behind this limited run.
The special edition is based on the latest-generation G-Class, retaining its modern powertrains and formidable off-road capabilities. It successfully merges contemporary performance with a design that evokes the spirit of the Mercedes vehicles that became famous for conquering deserts and rugged terrain worldwide. This edition affirms that Mercedes is not only betting on the future but also investing in its rich heritage by creating a vehicle that blends nostalgia for the past with the ambitions of the present.
