Chinese automaker Geely Auto has officially unveiled its first dedicated off-road SUV under the Galaxy sub-brand. Named the Galaxy Cruiser 700, the new model is a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) designed for adventure enthusiasts and rugged terrain driving. The reveal marks a significant expansion of Geely's lineup into the off-road SUV segment.

Galaxy Cruiser 700 Launch Timeline

The Geely Cruiser 700 is expected to launch in the Chinese market later this year, according to industry reports. The vehicle appeared in the latest batch of new vehicle approval applications published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on July 10. This step represents the final major regulatory hurdle before the SUV receives official approval for sale in China.

Geely Galaxy Cruiser 700 Specifications

The Galaxy Cruiser 700 features a robust body-on-frame architecture with substantial dimensions befitting its off-road focus. The SUV measures 5,085 mm in length, 1,999 mm in width, and 1,912 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,900 mm. Three height options are available — 1,895 mm, 1,912 mm, and 1,925 mm — depending on the trim and equipment level chosen by the buyer.

Engine and Performance of the Galaxy Cruiser 700

The base and mid-level trims of the Geely Cruiser 700 are powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine producing 120 kW of power, with a net output of 115 kW, and a top speed of 200 km/h. The range-topping variant, however, is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine delivering 160 kW (215 hp), with a maximum net power of 155 kW and a top speed of 220 km/h. The top variant also supports towing of trailers weighing up to 1,600 kg.

All trims of the Galaxy Cruiser 700 rely on a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by CATL, one of the world's largest battery manufacturers. The battery capacity stands at 47.14 kWh, providing a sufficient electric-only range for daily urban commutes while allowing the hybrid system to take over for longer journeys. The PHEV setup combines fuel efficiency with the capability expected from an off-road SUV.
