European vs Chinese Showdown: Citroën C3 Aircross Takes on MG ZS
The compact SUV segment just got a lot more interesting. Citroën has officially launched the all-new C3 Aircross in the Egyptian market, putting it on a direct collision course with the MG ZS — one of the category's best-selling contenders in recent years. This is a real head-to-head between European design DNA and Chinese market muscle.
Dimensions and Cabin Space
The numbers tell a clear story. Citroën C3 Aircross measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width. 1,660 mm in height, riding on a wheelbase of 2,670 mm. That wheelbase is the key here — it translates directly into more rear legroom than most rivals can offer. Passengers in the back will feel the difference immediately.
The MG ZS presents a different set of numbers. Length comes in at 4,323 mm, width at 1,809 mm. Height at 1,653 mm, with a shorter wheelbase of 2,585 mm. Curb weight stands at 1,318 kg — a figure that helps maintain a decent balance between stability and fuel efficiency. The ZS may be shorter overall, but its extra width could offer a different sense of spaciousness across the cabin.
Engines: Turbo vs Naturally Aspirated
Under the hood, the two cars diverge sharply. Citroën C3 Aircross uses a 1.2-liter PureTech turbocharged petrol engine pushing 130 horsepower, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. This setup delivers responsive acceleration and competitive fuel economy — the turbo makes a real difference when pulling away from a standstill or overtaking on the highway.
MG ZS takes a more conventional approach. Its 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine produces 120 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and maximum torque of 180 Nm at 4,500 rpm. A CVT automatic handles gear changes, prioritizing smoothness over sportiness. The fuel tank holds just 45 liters — a modest capacity for a car in this segment that might see longer commutes.
Cockpit and Tech Features
The C3 Aircross interior is unmistakably Citroën. A 10.25-inch central infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, complemented by a Head-Up Display for the driver — a rare find at this price point. The Citroën Advanced Comfort seats and Advanced Comfort Suspension system work together to filter out road imperfections before they reach the cabin. These are genuine differentiators.
MG ZS fights back with a 10.1-inch touchscreen supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, plus a 360-degree surround-view camera system powered by four wide-angle cameras. Rear parking sensors and keyless entry are standard. But the absence of any driver head-up display remains a weakness against the French contender. The feature list is strong, yet not quite complete.
