SN Automotive, the exclusive local agent for Dongfeng in Egypt, is gearing up to reveal the electric version of the Mage SUV in October. This will be the first EV to carry a Made in Egypt badge, assembled with El Nasr Automotive with over 30% local content and a 50 kWh battery. Until then, the gasoline version, fully imported from China, remains on sale.
Gasoline Engine: Strong Numbers
The Dongfeng Mage runs a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 204 hp and 305 Nm of torque between 2000 and 4000 rpm. It pairs with a 7-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic and front-wheel drive. This setup launches the SUV from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds and tops out at 190 km/h. Fuel consumption averages 6.8 liters per 100 km, or 14.7 km/l, with a 51-liter tank.
SUV Dimensions and Tech Features
Measuring 4.650 meters long, 1.905 meters wide. 1.630 meters tall, with a 2.775-meter wheelbase, the Mage offers generous space. Suspension is MacPherson strut front and multi-link rear, plus electric power steering. Inside, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 12.3-inch touchscreen support Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The Upcoming Electric Version
The electric Mage marks a milestone for Egypt's auto market as the first locally assembled EV with a Made in Egypt label. Its 50 kWh battery places it in the compact EV segment, but it's a first step for Dongfeng in this space. The EV will join its gasoline sibling, which has already made a mark with competitive specs.
What It Means for Buyers
For car buyers in Egypt, a locally made electric option opens new doors beyond traditional engines. The gasoline Mage blends performance with fuel economy, but those eyeing an electric drive can wait for the official reveal. This move could push other brands toward local assembly, positively impacting prices and services.
