BMW Fully Reveals Fifth-Generation X5 and All-Electric iX5

BMW has officially unveiled the fifth-generation X5, internally codenamed G65, featuring a sleek new design, five engine options producing up to 612 horsepower, and a two-row cabin. The German automaker also introduced the all-electric iX5, equipped with a massive 141 kWh battery. This generation delivers on its promises with X-shaped LED headlights, a completely redesigned interior, and a diverse powertrain lineup that includes plug-in hybrids and a long-range electric variant. It is widely regarded as the most significant X5 update in years.

Bolder Front Design and an All-New Tailgate

The new BMW X5 features a distinctive double X logo in the headlights, which can be switched on or off. It also gets a vertical split kidney grille with illuminated bars and integrated BMW wings. For the first time in an SUV, automatic doors are offered as standard equipment. The traditional split tailgate has been replaced by a single-piece rear door, complemented by full-width taillights. M Performance models add 23-inch wheels and four exhaust outlets. Overall length has grown to 4.99 meters, with a wheelbase of 3.03 meters — both increased by six centimeters over the previous generation.

Five Powertrains Ranging from 400 to 612 Horsepower

The BMW X5 is available with multiple engine choices. Combustion models include a turbocharged inline-six gasoline engine producing 400 hp and a diesel unit with 313 hp, both featuring mild-hybrid technology. Two plug-in hybrid variants follow: the 50e xDrive with 489 hp and the M60e xDrive with 612 hp, the latter serving as the new performance flagship until the full M model arrives. The all-electric iX5 60 xDrive uses a dual-motor system delivering 578 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.6 seconds. A hydrogen fuel-cell version of the iX5, developed in collaboration with Toyota, will follow later, offering a range of up to 750 km and refueling times under five minutes.

iX5 Electric: 845 km Range and Ultra-Fast Charging

The iX5 is the star of the lineup, equipped with a usable battery capacity of 141 kWh operating on an 800-volt architecture. This provides an impressive WLTP range of up to 845 kilometers. Charging capability reaches a remarkable 460 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes. Combining sporty performance with exceptional range, the iX5 positions itself as a strong contender in the luxury electric vehicle segment. The vehicle is expected to reach global markets next year, with a potential rollout in the Middle East thereafter.
