BMW Unveils Fifth-Generation X5 with All-Electric iX5 Offering Up to 845 km Range

BMW has fully unveiled the fifth-generation X5, codenamed G65, featuring a completely redesigned exterior, a revamped interior, and a range of five powertrain options delivering up to 612 horsepower. This generation marks a significant milestone for the model line, introducing for the first time a fully electric variant called the iX5, equipped with a massive 141 kWh battery pack.

Exterior Design: Sleeker Front End with X-Shaped Headlights

The new BMW X5 features a more elegant front-end design, with double X-shaped daytime running lights that can be switched on or off, along with a vertical split front grille featuring illuminated bars and integrated BMW wings. For the first time in an SUV, BMW offers automatic doors, while the traditional split tailgate has been replaced by a one-piece tailgate with full-width rear lights. M Performance models add 23-inch wheels and four exhaust outlets. The vehicle has grown to 4.99 meters in length with a 3.03-meter wheelbase, both increasing by six centimeters.

Five Powertrains: From Combustion to Plug-in Hybrid and Full Electric

The new X5 is available with several engine options. The combustion lineup includes a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine producing 400 hp and a diesel engine delivering 313 hp, both paired with a mild-hybrid system. Two plug-in hybrid variants follow: the 50e xDrive with 489 hp and the M60e xDrive with 612 hp, the latter serving as the new performance flagship until the full M model arrives.

The fully electric iX5 60 xDrive uses a dual-motor setup producing 578 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.6 seconds. A hydrogen fuel cell version developed in collaboration with Toyota will follow later, offering a range of up to 750 km and refueling in under five minutes.

Massive Battery and Ultra-Fast Charging

The iX5 leads the lineup with its advanced electric technology. It is equipped with a usable battery capacity of 141 kWh operating at 800 volts, delivering a range of up to 845 km according to the WLTP standard. The vehicle supports charging speeds of up to 460 kW, allowing a 10% to 80% charge in a remarkably short time. With this combination of strong electric performance and ultra-fast charging, BMW sets a new benchmark in the luxury electric SUV segment.
