BMW M5 2025: 717 HP and Plug-In Hybrid Power
BMW has unveiled the new-generation M5 sedan with a plug-in hybrid system combining a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor, producing a combined 717 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. The car accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph with the M Driver's Package. Curb weight is around 2.45 tonnes due to the battery, and the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system can switch to rear-wheel drive.
717 horsepower. That's the headline for the new BMW M5, which shifts to a plug-in hybrid setup combining a twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor. The sedan keeps its identity as one of the most iconic high-performance four-doors, but adds a new electric dimension entirely.
Hybrid System Delivers 717 HP and 1000 Nm
The hybrid system in the U.S. version produces a combined 717 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, equivalent to around 1000 Nm. Power goes through an M xDrive all-wheel-drive system and an 8-speed automatic transmission. Those figures put the BMW M5 at the top of its class for outright power.
4.4-Liter V8 and Advanced M Technologies
Under the hood, an M TwinPower Turbo 8-cylinder engine displaces 4395 cc within the hybrid system. The car can drive on electric power in certain conditions, while the system retains an energy buffer to deliver maximum power even when the displayed electric range drops. From a standstill to 60 mph, the M5 takes just 3.4 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 155 mph, rising to around 190 mph with the M Driver's Package. The M xDrive system offers 4WD, 4WD Sport. 2WD modes, allowing the driver to switch to rear-wheel drive. Technologies include M Track Mode, multi-stage traction control, M Drift Analyzer, and M Laptimer.
Weight Gain and New Challenges
Curb weight is around 5390 pounds (approximately 2.45 tonnes), due to the added battery and electric components. That extra mass presents a dynamic challenge, but BMW compensates with advanced suspension and drive technologies. The car measures around 5 meters long, reinforcing its road presence.
Does this blend of electric power and gasoline justify the price? BMW prices in the Egyptian market reflect its status as a luxury performance car. The new generation raises the bar further. The M5 remains an icon — but now it's an electric one too.
