BAIC to Launch X55 and X7 REEV Models in Egypt Next Wednesday
BAIC has announced it will reveal two new models in Egypt next Wednesday, the X55 and X7 in their new REEV range-extended versions. The current models produce 185 hp from a 1.5-liter turbo engine, while the X55 REEV delivers a combined 215 hp. This move signals the Chinese brand's push toward practical electrified options for the Egyptian market.
BAIC is gearing up to reveal two new models in Egypt next Wednesday, according to teaser images posted on its official channels. The two vehicles belong to the X family, with the BAIC X55 and X7 expected to arrive in REEV — range-extended electric vehicle — versions. The current models already on sale in Egypt run on conventional 1.5-liter turbo four-cylinder engines producing 185 hp and 305 Nm of torque.
What Changes With the REEV Powertrain?
The shift to REEV is the headline here. The BAIC X55 REEV pairs a 1.5-liter gasoline engine rated at 105 hp with an electric motor delivering 160 kW, for a combined output of 215 hp. That's a 30-hp jump over the current turbo model. The X7 REEV follows the same philosophy — a combustion engine working alongside an electric unit to extend total range and cut carbon emissions. It's a setup that bridges the gap between full EVs and traditional gasoline cars.
Why Range-Extended EVs Matter for Egypt
Charging infrastructure remains a real concern for Egyptian buyers. Range-extended electric vehicles solve that problem by letting the gasoline engine generate electricity when the battery runs low, eliminating range anxiety without requiring a dense charging network. BAIC is positioning itself to capture buyers who want electrification but aren't ready to commit to a pure EV. The X55 and X7 REEV could become the brand's strongest proposition in the Egyptian market yet.
What to Expect on Launch Day
Full pricing and specifications will be confirmed at the official reveal next Wednesday. The current X55 and X7 models are already available in Egypt, so the new REEV variants will slot alongside them rather than replace them. Buyers looking for a practical electrified SUV with long-range capability now have a concrete date to mark.
