Singapore's transport authorities have ordered the recall of 731 Hyundai Avante hybrid sedans over a fire risk caused by an overheating transistor in the power control unit. That figure represents roughly 80% of the 917 Avante hybrids registered in Singapore between 2024 and July 2026, according to the Straits Times.

The Technical Flaw Behind the Recall

Affected vehicles were manufactured between October 22, 2024, and January 7, 2026. When the transistor overheats, the car may fail to start or enter a reduced-power limp mode, with a warning light illuminating on the dashboard.

The risk isn't theoretical. In some cases, the issue can cause localized heat damage, according to a notice posted on Singapore's Land Transport Authority vehicle recall page. That notice clearly points to the possibility of components melting or catching fire.

Dealer Response and Global Recall Scope

A spokesperson for Komoco Motors, Hyundai's Singapore distributor, confirmed that the Land Transport Authority approved the recall on August 27, with owner notification letters currently being prepared. The Singapore recall isn't an isolated case — it's part of a broader campaign covering more than 54,000 vehicles in the United States.
