Expert: China Halts Production at Violating Auto Plants, Brands Not Disappearing
Engineer Khaled Saad, Secretary General of the Egyptian Auto Manufacturers Association and agent of a Chinese automotive brand, confirmed that Chinese authorities have taken strict measures by halting production at several factories that violated manufacturing license conditions, alongside restructuring the status of other companies. He emphasized that this does not mean the complete disappearance of these brands, but rather aims to correct the industrial path and ensure compliance with required standards.
Details of Chinese Actions Against Violating Factories
During his interview on the 'Arabity' program broadcast on Radio Egypt, Saad explained that parent companies in China often own multiple factories and product lines. Therefore, suspending a specific plant or product does not mean the entire company's operations have stopped. He added that these actions target only factories that violated licensing terms, not entire companies, ensuring that brands continue offering their products through their other licensed facilities.
Clarifying the Actual Duration of Production Halts
Saad pointed out that the companies recently discussed on social media platforms have actually been out of production for at least five years, not recently as some believe. He stressed that this misinformation creates confusion among consumers, especially with the spread of inaccurate news about the future of Chinese brands in global markets, including the Egyptian market.
Impact on the Egyptian Market and Consumers
Automotive experts believe these regulatory measures from the Chinese side reflect Beijing's commitment to improving the quality of its domestic auto industry and enhancing the global reputation of its products. For the Egyptian market, these steps could increase the reliability of imported Chinese vehicles, especially since major companies like Chery, Geely, and BYD continue their production and marketing operations normally, reassuring consumers about the continued availability of spare parts and after-sales services.
Specialists advise automotive market followers to verify information circulating about brand suspensions and rely on official sources from parent companies and local dealers. They also emphasize that restructuring some Chinese factories is a natural and necessary process for industry development and does not reflect any real crisis in the sector. For those seeking the best deals, they can monitor Chery prices and Geely prices in the Egyptian market.
