Volvo EX90 Arrives in Egypt at EGP 4.9 Million — Who Are Its Rivals?

Volvo's Egyptian distributor, El Araby Group, has officially launched the all-electric Volvo EX90 in the local market at a price of EGP 4.9 million. The Swedish luxury SUV enters one of the highest segments of electric vehicles available in Egypt, combining substantial size with fully electric powertrain. Competition in this space looks completely different from other EVs on the market.

Volvo EX90 Specifications in Egypt

The EX90 arrives as a large luxury SUV with three rows of seating, accommodating seven passengers. It relies on a Twin Motor all-wheel-drive system producing 456 horsepower and 670 Nm of torque, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.5 seconds. Driving range on a single charge reaches 720 km, while charging from 10 to 80 percent takes roughly 22 minutes via a fast charger.

The dimensions tell their own story. The car stretches 5,037 mm in length, 1,964 mm in width. 1,747 mm in height, riding on a 2,985 mm wheelbase. Those numbers firmly place it in the large SUV category — a segment almost empty of electric competition in Egypt today.

Electric Rivals for the EX90

The obvious question now: is there any real competition? BYD offers diverse models but mostly in smaller size classes. The Xiaomi SU7 is technically intriguing, yet it isn't a three-row family SUV. The local market gap between compact EVs and large luxury electric SUVs remains massive.

Among premium brands, BMW fields its iX models, but none offers a third seating row. The smaller Mercedes EQB seats seven yet belongs to a lower size and luxury bracket. The absence of Tesla Model Y from official local channels leaves the Swedish newcomer with a wide-open field.

How About Traditional Rivals?

The picture changes when comparing the EX90 to conventional combustion SUVs. The regular Volvo XC90 offers similar dimensions with hybrid tech, but lacks the silent full-electric experience. Range Rover remains the top luxury choice, yet at a far higher price and primarily combustion power.

The closest competitors might be the Audi Q7 or BMW X7 in their plug-in hybrid versions, though their pricing often exceeds the EGP 5 million mark. With the EX90 landing at EGP 4.9 million, Volvo delivers a rare mix of full electrification, luxury, and generous proportions to the Egyptian market.
