Toyota and Lexus to Launch Electric Cars in Egypt This May
Non-Chinese automakers are stepping up their game in Egypt, as traditional companies prepare to counter the rising competition from Chinese brands. After months of dominance by Chinese manufacturers, legacy automakers are now pushing back with new models, including conventional, electric, and other powertrains. Among these traditional players is Toyota Egypt, which is determined to reshape its presence in the local market.
Toyota and Lexus to Unveil New EVs
Toyota Egypt is expected to reveal new vehicles from both its Toyota and Lexus brands in the domestic market. The company will launch these all-electric models during a grand event scheduled for May 13 at the Grand Egyptian Museum, signaling a strong push towards electrification in Egypt.
Expected Models: Toyota bZ4X and Lexus RZ
While the automaker has not yet confirmed the exact models to be introduced from both brands, speculation points to the Toyota bZ4X electric SUV and the Lexus RZ. The Toyota bZ4X features an electric drivetrain with a front-mounted electric motor or dual motors for all-wheel drive, paired with a 71.4 kWh battery pack producing 204 hp. The vehicle achieves a top speed of 160 km/h, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds, and offers a driving range between 470 km and 516 km on a single charge.
Toyota bZ3: Another Electric Option
Toyota also offers another electric model, the bZ3, equipped with an electric motor generating 245 hp and 303 Nm of torque, along with a lower-powered variant. The bZ3 delivers a driving range of up to 616 km per charge, making it an attractive option for EV enthusiasts in the Egyptian market.
