Lucid Settles the Debate: EV Maintenance Is 60% Cheaper Than Gasoline

American luxury EV maker Lucid says maintenance costs for electric vehicles can drop by around 60% compared to traditional internal combustion engine cars. The number is striking. This stems from the lower number of mechanical parts that need regular servicing or replacement, reshaping the total cost of ownership over years of use.

Lucid: Fewer Parts, Simpler Maintenance

The big difference comes from the EV powertrain design. That relies on fewer moving parts than gasoline or diesel engines. An electric car needs no oil changes or spark plugs. Many components tied to the internal combustion engine disappear entirely. That cuts the number of service center visits dramatically.

Yet maintenance doesn't vanish completely. EVs still need care for tires, suspension, air conditioning. Wiper blades, plus battery and electrical system checks. Spending drops on engine-related items, but other costs remain.

Brakes Could Last Longer

Regenerative braking adds another layer of savings. EVs use their motors to slow the car and recover energy back into the battery, reducing reliance on traditional brakes while driving. That can extend the lifespan of some brake components and lower replacement frequency compared to conventional cars.

Does 60% Savings Apply in Every Case?

Lucid's estimate isn't a fixed number for all EVs. Actual costs vary by model, driving habits, distances covered, and parts and service prices in each market. EV ownership costs also differ between countries based on electricity and fuel rates, service center availability, and charging infrastructure.
