Jaguar Type 01: A Luxury Electric Car Ushers in a New Era for the British Brand
Jaguar has outlined the next phase of its history, confirming that its new electric vehicle will be named Type 01, with a full reveal scheduled for later in 2026 before it reaches markets in 2027. This model represents the first production car in Jaguar's new electric era, following years of restructuring the British brand and its shift toward the higher-priced luxury segment, in an effort to move away from traditional competition and return to the premium high-performance arena in a different form.
From Type 00 to Type 01: Design and Philosophy Evolution
Jaguar had paved the way for this transformation through the Type 00 concept model, which sparked widespread debate with its bold design and unconventional marketing campaign, before the company revealed that the production version inspired by it would be called Type 01. The new name reflects the brand's philosophy at this stage; the number '0' signifies zero emissions, while the number '1' marks the beginning of a new generation of Jaguar electric vehicles.
Four-Door GT: Sporty Presence with Practical Spaciousness
Unlike the Type 00 concept, which appeared as a two-door coupe, the production Type 01 will arrive as a luxurious four-door GT, combining sporty presence with practical spaciousness while maintaining long, low, and wide design proportions. Through this formula, Jaguar aims to compete with luxury electric vehicles such as the Porsche Taycan, Mercedes EQS, Lucid Air, and Audi e-tron GT, but it bets on offering a more distinctive character rather than engaging in a traditional numbers comparison.
Approaching 1,000 Horsepower: Superb Electric Performance
According to specialized reports, the Jaguar Type 01 will feature a three-motor electric powertrain producing over 986 horsepower, with torque approaching 1,300 Nm. The car is expected to deliver exceptional performance that places it in the high-performance electric vehicle segment, with all-wheel drive and impressive acceleration capabilities, alongside a clear focus on driving comfort and long-distance travel, befitting the identity of luxury GT cars.
Long Range and Ultra-Fast Charging: A New Electric Platform
Jaguar is developing the Type 01 on a new dedicated electric platform, relying on a high-voltage electrical architecture aimed at providing long driving range and fast charging. Expectations suggest the car could offer a range exceeding 400 miles in some markets, equivalent to more than 640 kilometers, with the ability to add significant distances through ultra-fast charging, positioning it as a strong contender in the long-range luxury electric vehicle segment.
