The Hyundai Motor Group, along with its affiliate Kia, has posted impressive results in the electric vehicle market during the first five months of this year. Official data revealed a 24.3% year-on-year increase in its EV sales, reaching a cumulative total of 303,000 units between January and May, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.

Global EV Market Performance

On the global stage, electric vehicle sales experienced steady growth, rising by 3.5% over the same period to hit 7.75 million units. These figures were released by market research firm SNE Research, underscoring the continued surge in demand for clean-energy vehicles across various international markets.

Narrowing the Gap with Competitors

Despite ranking seventh worldwide, the Hyundai Group managed to significantly narrow the gap with China's Changan, which holds the sixth position. While the difference between the two stood at 78,000 units in the corresponding period last year, it has now shrunk to just 27,000 units. The group also increased its market share from 3.3% to 3.9%, signaling an acceleration in its electric race.

The company confirmed that the Hyundai Motor Group recorded the highest growth rate among the top seven automakers in terms of sales. This achievement strengthens its position as a formidable player in the electric vehicle segment and is expected to support its future trajectory in this rapidly evolving market.

Global Manufacturer Rankings

China's BYD topped the list of the world's largest EV manufacturers with sales of 1.15 million units, followed by the Geely Group with 779,000 units. Tesla ranked third with 601,000 units, while Volkswagen came in fourth with 542,000 units. SAIC secured the fifth position with 458,000 units, and Changan followed with 330,000 units. These figures highlight the continued dominance of Chinese automakers, while Korean and European brands are accelerating their competitive pace.
