Electric vehicles are rapidly establishing a stronger foothold in the Egyptian market, driven by rising purchase interest, an expanding lineup of new models from automakers, and growing charging and maintenance infrastructure. Automotive experts describe this shift as the beginning of a new phase in Egypt's transition toward clean transportation.

Sales Surge and Shifting Consumer Perception

Industry experts confirm that the Egyptian market is currently witnessing a significant boom in electric car sales, fueled by changing consumer attitudes and higher demand compared to previous years. They expect growth rates to continue accelerating, especially with the entry of new brands and increased investments in charging infrastructure and support services.

Numbers Reveal the Acceleration

Journalist and media figure Hesham El-Zeiny revealed that the total number of electric cars entering the Egyptian market from 2021 through the end of May 2026 reached approximately 28,292 vehicles. He noted that while electric cars initially entered the market in limited numbers, the growth pace has clearly picked up recently, driven by growing consumer confidence and the introduction of diverse models catering to different customer segments.

Record-Breaking May

El-Zeiny added that last May alone saw the entry of nearly 1,600 electric cars, one of the highest monthly figures recorded to date. This represents between 8% and 10% of the gasoline-powered cars that entered the market during the same period, highlighting the accelerating adoption of electric vehicles in Egypt.

Expected Investments to Fuel Transition

He further explained that sustained growth will encourage companies to pour more investments into importing electric cars, building charging stations, and expanding after-sales services, gradually supporting the Egyptian market's shift toward this type of vehicle.
