BYD Retains Top Spot in Egypt's EV Market for Fourth Consecutive Month

BYD has maintained its leadership of Egypt's electric vehicle market for the fourth consecutive month in June 2026, according to the latest mandatory vehicle insurance report. The report revealed that a total of 2,233 electric vehicles were insured and registered during June, compared to 2,123 in May, reflecting continued gradual growth for this segment within the domestic market.

June 2026 Registration Breakdown

Data for the month showed that pure electric cars accounted for 1,057 units out of the total electric vehicles registered, amid intensifying competition among different brands. BYD secured the top spot with 168 cars, followed by Deepal with 160 units, and Geely with 143 vehicles. DFSK recorded approximately 106 cars, Zeekr also logged 106 units, while Volkswagen registered 78 vehicles.

Analyzing the Competitive Landscape

Although BYD's sales volume declined compared to May, when it recorded 465 cars, the Chinese automaker retained its top position for the fourth consecutive month. This relative decline comes as new competitors enter the market and the level of diversity within Egypt's EV segment rises. The report indicates that the market is gradually moving toward greater variety in the options available to consumers.

June 2026 figures reveal a strong presence of Chinese brands such as BYD, Deepal, Geely, and Zeekr, alongside the continued presence of European brands like Volkswagen. This diversity reflects a notable shift in the demand landscape for electric vehicles locally, with increasing options available to buyers across different price segments and technology offerings. Egypt's electric vehicle market is undergoing a structural transformation toward greater maturity and competitiveness.
