Battery Revolution Boosts EV Range from 150 km to 1,000 km, Says Expert

Electric vehicle expert Tony Latif has revealed that the EV industry has undergone significant transformations in recent years, driven by rapid advancements in battery technology, particularly in China. According to Latif, the driving range per charge has surged from just 150 kilometers to nearly 1,000 kilometers in some modern models.

Modest Beginnings in Egypt

Speaking on the radio program 'Arabity' on Egypt Radio, Latif noted that electric vehicles first appeared in Egypt in 2017, but adoption remained limited. He pointed out that early battery capabilities were modest, with EVs covering only 150 to 200 kilometers per charge.

Post-Pandemic Technological Leaps

The expert explained that the years following the COVID-19 pandemic witnessed rapid developments in EV manufacturing, with China playing a pivotal role. EVs capable of covering around 500 kilometers per charge emerged, before further technological breakthroughs pushed some modern models to a range between 900 and 1,000 kilometers per charge.

China vs. Japan in Battery Development

Latif highlighted strong competition between China and Japan in battery development, but noted that China is now closer to winning the race, thanks to its massive industrial capabilities, advanced technology, and strong innovation and rapid development capacities.

He emphasized that continuous progress in battery manufacturing is the decisive factor for the global future of electric vehicles. Latif predicted that competition will intensify in the coming years to produce more efficient, longer-lasting, and cheaper batteries, which will accelerate the widespread adoption of EVs.
