Auto Dealers Association: REEV and Hybrid Tech Are the Best Fit for Egypt's Conditions

Mahmoud Hammad, Vice President of the Auto Dealers Association and Head of its Used Cars Division, confirmed that full reliance on pure electric vehicles (BEV) faces major challenges in Egypt today. Used cars in the Egyptian market are witnessing a shift as Extended Range Electric Vehicle (REEV) and i-Power technologies emerge as the practical alternative suited for local conditions and climate.

The REEV System Explained

Surprising engineering. A small gasoline engine that never drives the wheels directly, instead acting as a generator producing electricity to charge the electric motor while driving. Hammad explained during a televised economic program appearance how REEV vehicles function, noting they rely on a small combustion engine paired with an electric motor. The association's vice president pointed out that the market is currently moving towards adjusting chargers to comply with the European protocol compatible with most available charging stations. Nissan and Hyundai offer conventional hybrids, yet the extended-range concept delivers greater consumer confidence. Chery and Geely are evaluating similar systems for the local market.

Practical solutions matter most for Egyptian buyers right now. REEV and hybrid technologies combine fuel efficiency with continued use of existing fuel station infrastructure. Kia and Toyota lead the hybrid race in Egypt, while REEV opens doors to entirely new possibilities. Chevrolet watches the market cautiously.
