New data reveals that a total of 28,292 electric vehicles have entered the Egyptian market from 2021 through the end of May 2026, underscoring the accelerating shift toward clean mobility in the country over recent years.

The figures show a remarkable surge in electric vehicle imports, particularly from the second half of 2025 into early 2026, with monthly intake rates climbing to unprecedented levels compared to the relatively modest numbers recorded between 2021 and 2024.

May alone saw nearly 1,600 electric vehicles enter the local market, representing about 8 to 10 percent of all gasoline-powered vehicles imported during the same period — a clear sign of the growing share of EVs in the market mix.

Industry experts believe that sustaining this upward momentum in EV sales will encourage more investors to expand in the sector, whether through vehicle imports or investments in charging infrastructure and related services, further positioning Egypt as a promising emerging market for electric mobility.
