As temperatures soar during the summer months, drivers are not the only ones at risk of heat stress. The vehicle itself enters a danger zone when left for extended periods under direct sunlight, especially if flammable or explosive materials are present inside the cabin. The temperature inside a closed car can rise to levels far exceeding the outside heat, turning everyday items into serious threats, particularly those that are pressurized or contain alcohol, batteries, or expandable gases.

Perfumes, Alcohol, and Hand Sanitizers

Among the most hazardous items left inside cars are bottles of perfume, alcohol, and hand sanitizers. These contain highly flammable substances that can react intensely when exposed to direct heat inside the cabin. As temperatures rise, the containers may expand or leak their contents, increasing the risk of ignition if a spark or heat source is present within the vehicle.

Deodorants and Pressurized Cans

Deodorant sprays, small gas canisters, and lighters are among the most dangerous items to keep inside a car during summer, as they are inherently pressurized. When exposed to high temperatures, their contents can expand significantly, potentially causing the container to explode or send fragments flying inside the cabin.

Lighters and E-Cigarettes

Leaving cigarette lighters or e-cigarettes inside a car under the sun is a common mistake with potentially severe consequences. Lighters contain flammable gas, while e-cigarettes rely on batteries and electrical circuits that can be adversely affected by extreme heat. These items should be removed from the vehicle immediately when parking for long periods.

Electronic Devices and Phone Batteries

Electronic devices and mobile phone batteries cannot withstand high temperatures and may suffer damage, swelling, or even catch fire under certain conditions. Leaving chargers, power banks, or phones inside a closed car can lead to their deterioration, and may cause more serious issues if the battery is of poor quality or already damaged.

Cosmetics and Medical Supplies

Cosmetics and certain medical supplies may seem harmless, but they can be adversely affected by extreme heat, whether through spoilage, leakage, or changes in their chemical composition. It is therefore advisable not to leave them inside the car for extended periods, especially if they come in pressurized containers or contain heat-sensitive ingredients.
