The used car market in Egypt continues to attract the majority of car buyers, driven by the persistent price gap with new vehicles and the diversity of available options. With recent signs of price stabilization compared to previous months, purchasing opportunities are improving, especially for those looking at economy and mid-range segments, which form the backbone of consumer demand in the country.

Key Factors Determining Used Car Prices

In this context, Engineer Khaled Saad, Secretary General of the Automotive Manufacturers Association, confirmed that used car prices in the Egyptian market currently start from under 150,000 EGP. He explained that the final price of any car is not solely determined by its age, but by a combination of factors including the technical condition, model year, trim level, service history, mileage, and whether the car has been involved in any accidents, in addition to the demand level for that specific model in the resale market.

Saad added that these criteria can sometimes push prices of certain used cars above those of new vehicles, particularly if the car boasts exceptional technical condition or belongs to a model known for strong resale value retention. The brand reputation, availability of spare parts, and after-sales service quality also play a significant role in enhancing buyer confidence, even when the price exceeds typical expectations.

Price Improvement and Market Outlook

The Secretary General of the Automotive Manufacturers Association noted that cars representing the largest share of Egyptian consumer needs are currently priced between 400,000 and 500,000 EGP. He emphasized that the market is witnessing a notable improvement in price levels compared to just one or two months ago. This improvement reflects a return of balance between supply and demand, following a period of sharp price inflation across all vehicle categories.

Regarding market expectations for the coming period, Khaled Saad clarified that price movements over the next two months will remain tied to several key variables, led by currency exchange rate developments and the overall economic situation. He stressed that the volume of available used cars and demand levels from buyers will play a decisive role in determining the final price direction. He also advised consumers to monitor the market closely and avoid rushing into a purchase decision without thoroughly studying all available options.
