Major road arteries in Cairo and Giza witnessed severe traffic congestion and slow vehicle movement this morning, with significant overcrowding on several key axes during the morning peak hours. Traffic authorities have intensified their field presence to ensure citizen safety and facilitate vehicle flow, while directing drivers toward alternative routes to ease pressure on congested corridors.

Two Collisions on Salah Salem Axis

The Salah Salem axis recorded two car collisions. The first occurred in front of the Exhibition Grounds on the route coming from Al-Rahman Al-Rahim Mosque heading toward Nozha, Sheraton, and the Airport. Traffic police advise those coming from Salah Salem to use Al-Firdous Bridge, then Al-Sikka Al-Baida Street to reach Al-Nasr Axis. The second accident took place in front of the Military Academy on the route coming from Joseph Tito heading toward Al-Tayaran Bridge. Drivers coming from Nozha and Joseph Tito are advised to use Sheraton Residences or Abdel Hamid Badawi Street to reach Heliopolis areas.

Al-Azhar Tunnel and Autostrad at the Heart of the Crisis

Downtown Cairo and the Al-Azhar Tunnel experienced severe traffic jams, as did the Autostrad axis for those coming from Helwan toward Maadi and Al-Qalaa, as well as for those heading from Maadi to 15 May and between Al-Gabalain, due to the presence of heavy transport trucks. Abbas Al-Akkad Axis also recorded congestion and slow vehicle movement, while the Ring Road, 26th of July Axis, and October Bridge witnessed high traffic volumes and significant vehicle accumulation.

Alternative Routes Recommended by Traffic Authorities

In Cairo, traffic police recommend using the Corniche as an alternative to the Autostrad axis, and using Al-Azhar Street as an alternative to the Al-Azhar Tunnel to avoid severe congestion. Slow vehicle movement was observed in Heliopolis, Maadi, and Al-Manial areas, while high traffic volumes were recorded in Qasr Al-Aini, downtown areas, and the Al-Azhar Tunnel. Heavy traffic congestion also appeared on the Nile Corniche toward Maspero and Al-Moassasa, while Al-Tayaran Axis saw regular traffic flow.

Traffic Situation in Giza and 6th of October City

In Giza, the Agouza and Mohandeseen areas experienced scattered traffic congestion due to increased vehicle movement on their axes. Medium traffic density was observed on Al-Haram and Al-Rimaya axes, while vehicle accumulation was recorded on Safr Al-Laban, Faisal, Al-Tawabeq, Giza Square, Sudan Street, and between Al-Sarayat axes. In 6th of October City, medium traffic density appeared in most areas, except for the Central Axis, which witnessed high traffic volumes.
