Traffic Safety Expert Calls for Keeping Fire Extinguisher and First Aid as Licensing Requirements
Major General Dr. Ayman El-Dabaa, a traffic safety expert, has called for reconsidering the cancellation of fire extinguisher, first aid kit, and reflective triangle requirements for car licensing. His demand came as the Interior Ministry announced new measures to streamline licensing procedures, following President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives. While some equipment can be exempted, El-Dabaa argues that essential safety gear should remain mandatory as they are technical means for emergencies.
Major General Dr. Ayman El-Dabaa, a traffic safety expert, has urged a reconsideration of the decision to cancel the requirement for fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and reflective triangles when licensing cars in Egypt, stressing that these devices are essential for handling road emergencies.
New Interior Ministry Decisions
El-Dabaa's demand coincided with new decisions announced by the Ministry of Interior in response to President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi's directives to streamline car licensing procedures and reduce burdens and costs on citizens. The measures included implementing a one-window system, expanding electronic services, and linking with relevant licensing authorities. They also included cancelling the requirement to provide certain safety and emergency equipment at licensing, including fire extinguishers, first aid kits. Reflective triangles, to reduce licensing costs and procedures.
Expert's View on Equipment
In a post on his official social media page, El-Dabaa said he closely followed the presidential directives and the rapid response from the Interior Ministry. He noted that the current phase requires simplifying procedures, reducing fees, and eliminating any uncodified amounts. He explained that some equipment, such as reflective vests, cones. Guide booklets, can be exempted from mandatory provision by car owners, aligning with the state's easing direction.
Important Exception for Safety Equipment
El-Dabaa believes that fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and reflective triangles differ from those items, as they are technical means that can be used in emergencies and accidents. He called for reconsidering the cancellation of their requirement, pointing out that they are applied in many countries and may be part of the standard equipment of some cars.
