Toyota Prepares to Assemble a New Model in Egypt Soon

Toyota is preparing to assemble a completely new vehicle class in Egypt during the coming period, reinforcing the government's push toward local automotive manufacturing. The announcement came during a meeting between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Toshimitsu Imai, President and CEO of Toyota Tsusho Corporation, with Engineer Khaled Hashem, Minister of Industry, and the Japanese Ambassador to Cairo in attendance.

Toyota's Expanding Footprint in the Egyptian Market

The meeting carried clear economic messages, as Madbouly affirmed that the automotive and clean energy sectors are top priorities for the Egyptian government. He stressed the importance of strengthening Toyota Tsusho's investments and expanding its activities in the local market to support industrial development plans.

The Industry Minister outlined Egypt's goal of becoming a regional hub for vehicle assembly and manufacturing. He noted that the government offers incentives to support industry and increase the local component ratio, while leveraging global companies' expertise in technical training and workforce qualification.

9,600 Cars Sold by Toyota and Lexus in 2025

The figures Imai revealed during the meeting reflect the Japanese brand's strong presence in Egypt. Toyota Tsusho operates through Toyota Egypt, with combined sales of approximately 9,600 vehicles during 2025. The number places Toyota in an advanced position among international brands operating locally.

Imai added that the Fortuner has been assembled locally since 2012, confirming the company is now preparing to assemble an entirely new class of Toyota vehicles in Egypt in the near future. Full details about the upcoming model have not been disclosed yet, but all indicators suggest the decision has been finalized.

Energy Investments Reaching $2.4 Billion in Power Generation

Toyota Tsusho's activities in Egypt extend beyond automobiles into other critical sectors. Imai revealed that the group holds substantial energy investments, including power generation projects from thermal plants with a combined capacity of up to 6,262 megawatts. These investments are estimated at around $2.4 billion, in addition to active participation in wind and renewable energy projects.

Such substantial investments reflect the Japanese group's commitment to supporting Egypt's economy and raise questions about which model Toyota will assemble locally next. Many observers speculate it could be a sport utility vehicle, given the tremendous success of the Fortuner in the Egyptian market since local assembly began over a decade ago.
