Temporary Route Changes for Two Trains on El-Qabari – Marsa Matrouh Line Due to High-Speed Electric Rail Project
Egypt's National Railways Authority has announced temporary route changes for two trains operating on the "El-Qabari – Marsa Matrouh" line, effective from Friday evening. These adjustments coincide with ongoing construction work for the high-speed electric rail project in the Al-Ruweisat area, a major national infrastructure initiative designed to modernize public transportation and connect governorates via a state-of-the-art rail network.
Construction Scope and Impact on Rail Operations
The authority explained that the work involves rerouting the railway tracks between kilometer markers 72/350 and 74/350, scheduled to take place from 7:15 PM until 12:15 AM, spanning five consecutive hours. These activities are part of the project's engineering safety protocols, ensuring the structural integrity of the new high-speed line while minimizing disruption to existing services.
Detailed Schedule Changes for Trains 656 and 943
Under the announced modifications, train No. 656 "Moharam Bek – Al-Dabaa" will have its route shortened, terminating at Al-Hammam station instead of its usual Al-Dabaa destination. Meanwhile, train No. 943 "Marsa Matrouh – Cairo" will depart 30 minutes later than scheduled, leaving Marsa Matrouh station at 9:30 PM instead of the regular 9:00 PM departure time.
The authority emphasized that these measures are strictly temporary and implemented to secure train movements during the construction phase, ensuring the highest safety and security standards across the railway network. All arrangements were coordinated with relevant authorities to minimize passenger inconvenience and maintain operational continuity during the work window.
The National Railways Authority called on passengers to understand these temporary adjustments and adhere to the updated departure times until the planned work is completed and normal operations resume. This initiative reflects the authority's commitment to advancing railway services in line with Egypt's major national projects, prioritizing passenger safety while modernizing transport infrastructure for the future.
