Article Summary

Egypt's Prime Minister inaugurated a factory in Suez to produce and assemble digital fuel dispensers and smart gas meters, targeting 6,000 pumps and 600,000 meters annually. The plant is a joint venture between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and GTS, licensed by Dover Fueling Solutions and Kaifa. It aims to raise local content from 40% to 80% by the end of the third year, supporting fuel station infrastructure and reducing imports.

6,000 fuel pumps a year. That's the target for a new factory in Suez, inaugurated by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, to manufacture and assemble digital fuel dispensers and smart gas meters. The project aims to localize production of equipment used at fuel stations and cut the import bill. The plant was established by the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in partnership between the Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation and Global Technical Services (GTS), in cooperation with international specialists.

Dedicated Production Lines and Global Partnerships

The factory houses a line for manufacturing and assembling Wayne-brand fuel dispensers under license from Dover Fueling Solutions (DFS), and another line for smart gas meters in cooperation with China's Kaifa. These partnerships go beyond assembling components—they involve transferring technology and technical expertise to the Egyptian market, reflected in the investment in production lines and specialized equipment.

Local Content Targeted at 80%

Mohamed Shawky, Managing Director of the company, said the factory aims to raise the local content ratio from 40% currently to 80% by the end of the third year. That's no small feat. Deepening manufacturing to this level requires training local talent and qualifying new supply chains, which could directly impact the automotive sector that relies on fuel stations and precise measurement systems for operational efficiency.

On the quality front, the company equipped the plant with specialized equipment to test, inspect. Calibrate fuel pumps, verifying measurement accuracy, flow rates, and performance efficiency. The pump factory obtained ATEX, NMI. ISO certifications, while the smart meter plant received ISO and NMI approvals. International certifications mean the local product is ready to compete externally too, not just meet domestic demand.

Direct Impact on Fuel Station Infrastructure

This step carries particular weight for the automotive sector, given fuel stations' reliance on equipment and precise measurement systems. The project aims to meet part of market demand locally and support the development of fuel station infrastructure, potentially easing import pressure and providing faster spare parts and maintenance. Kurt Dillen, Vice President of Dover Fueling Solutions, praised the factory's equipment level and execution quality, stressing the project's importance in strengthening the partnership and expanding future investments in the Egyptian market.
