The Romeel Bridge in Marsa Matrouh is back in service. It reopened after comprehensive replacement, renovation, and development work aimed at boosting traffic efficiency while turning the site into a tourist and entertainment destination with prime water views.

Top Officials Inaugurate the Bridge

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly led the opening ceremony during his tour of the governorate. He was joined by Local Development Minister Manal Awad, Housing Minister Randa El-Menshawy. Matrouh Governor Mohamed El-Zamlout, along with project officials. The details revealed a completely new technical profile.

The numbers stand out. The new bridge stretches 28 meters in length and 16 meters in width. It features four traffic lanes, two in each direction, allowing smoother vehicle flow and better connectivity in the area. The design supports weights up to 70 tons, with a capacity of about 1,500 vehicles per lane. That marks a significant jump compared to the old structure.

Steel Frame Without Obstacles in the Waterway

The engineers used a full steel structure. Crucially, the design has no supports inside the waterway, which improves water flow beneath the bridge. At 6 meters above the water surface, two glass walkways give visitors a direct view of the water, complemented by underwater lighting designed to enhance the visual experience.

The goal goes beyond traffic. The project aims to turn the bridge into a tourist draw serving both locals and visitors to Romeel Beach. Rising vehicle numbers in the region, especially during summer when thousands of vacationers pour in, were a key driver behind this complete overhaul.

Infrastructure investment in Matrouh is clearly accelerating. The new bridge is part of a broader plan to upgrade the entire road network. Development work covered the surrounding area too, ensuring the site functions smoothly and looks cohesive — a fitting upgrade for one of the coast's most scenic spots.
