Ramou Square in October Closed for 7 Days for Electric Train Work

The Giza Governorate has announced a complete traffic closure of Ramou Square in 6th of October City, starting Saturday, August 15, 2026, until Friday, August 21, 2026, daily from midnight to 6 AM. The closure is for lifting concrete beams as part of the high-speed electric train project.

Closure Details and Reasons

The closure affects the first line of the electric train project stretching from Ain Sokhna to the New Administrative Capital, El Alamein, and Matrouh. The concrete beam will be lifted above West Somid Road, specifically at Ramou Square connecting the Distinguished District to West Somid areas. The General Authority for Roads and Bridges is handling the work.

Night hours were chosen to minimize traffic disruption. From midnight to 6 AM, roads usually see lower density, allowing work to progress without major delays. Yet drivers during those hours need to know the detours in advance.

Official Traffic Detours

The Giza Traffic Department set two alternative routes. Those coming from the Distinguished District toward West Somid drive along Abdel Khaleq Tharwat Street toward Al Wahat Road, then turn right onto West Somid Road after passing the work zone. Drivers from West Somid toward the Distinguished District continue on West Somid Road to the 26th of July Axis extension, then turn right onto Souad Kafafi Street to reach the district.

The detours aren't complicated, but they demand extra attention in the dark. Warning signs will be placed around the entire work area, according to coordination between Giza Traffic, the General Traffic Department, and the executing company. Lighting poles and light towers were also added to ensure the safety of citizens and vehicle drivers.
