New Government Program for Scrapping Old Cars: Minister of Industry Reveals Details, Waiting Lists Top Thousands
Engineer Khaled Hashim, Minister of Industry, has revealed intense government preparations to launch a new program for replacing aging vehicles. The initiative is being coordinated with the Ministry of Finance and includes a broad package of facilities and incentives. Early numbers suggest waiting lists have already surpassed the thousands mark.
Program Details and Incentives
The minister announced in official statements that his ministry is currently coordinating with the Finance Ministry to finalize the program’s framework. The primary goal is to support citizens looking to replace their old vehicles with modern ones. The package includes financial and procedural incentives that make the replacement process smoother and less costly for owners.
An equally important objective is encouraging citizens to acquire vehicles with higher efficiency and lower environmental impact. This step directly contributes to modernizing the country's car fleet circulating on Egyptian streets. Improved vehicle efficiency will positively reflect on fuel consumption and help reduce harmful emissions.
Supporting the Auto Sector and Deepening Local Manufacturing
The minister noted that the program falls within the state's broader efforts to support the car sector in Egypt. The project isn't limited to replacement alone, but connects with strategic plans to deepen local manufacturing and elevate national industry. Local factories will benefit from increased demand for domestically-produced new vehicles.
Hashim made his remarks during a meeting with the Presidential Advisory Council of Scientists and Experts. Reports indicate the meeting reviewed the ministry's comprehensive vision for developing the automotive industry. The vision includes advancing local industry levels to more sophisticated stages in the coming years.
The difference will be tangible for millions of Egyptians. Owners of old vehicles will find a real opportunity to dispose of their outdated cars and obtain modern alternatives. The new program could be the perfect solution for those wanting to upgrade without facing huge financial burdens. The wait may well be justified, especially with incentives expected to be announced gradually over the next period.
