New Cairo Tops the List of Highest Vehicle Registration Units for Brand-New Cars in May 2026
The monthly report issued by the Egyptian Compulsory Motor Insurance Pool revealed that the New Cairo traffic registration unit continues to top the list of units with the highest number of brand-new vehicle registrations during May 2026, driven by strong activity in Greater Cairo markets and customs ports.
According to the report, the New Cairo traffic unit ranked first with a total of 2,311 new vehicles insured and registered during the month, maintaining its position as one of the largest car registration centers in Egypt. This is fueled by high population density, significant urban expansion, and the concentration of car showrooms and financing companies in the area.
The Nasr City traffic unit came in second place with a total of 1,598 vehicles, while the Faisal unit ranked third with 1,480 vehicles. It was followed by the October unit with 1,336 vehicles, and the Abis unit with 1,330 vehicles.
The report also highlighted strong activity at customs ports linked to import movement. The Salloum port recorded 11,590 vehicles, Nuweiba port registered 2,656 vehicles, and Safaga port recorded 1,996 vehicles, reflecting sustained commercial activity and vehicle entry flows through various ports.
Observers believe that the continued dominance of Greater Cairo units reflects the concentration of purchasing power, financing activity, and distribution within the capital and its surrounding areas. Meanwhile, the customs port figures indicate ongoing reliance on imports to meet local market demand, especially with the diversity of models and rising demand for 2026 and 2027 models.
The report further noted that the total number of used vehicles registered during May reached 337,528 vehicles, compared to 56,141 brand-new vehicles, in addition to 18,398 customs-cleared vehicles.
The report also revealed a 10.7% decline in the total absorption of the new vehicle market compared to the previous month, with Nissan continuing to top the list of the most registered brands, alongside sustained growth in the number of electric vehicles in the Egyptian market.
