Major Omar Suleiman Axis to Strengthen Alexandria Connectivity Between the Desert Road, Airport and North Coast

The Cabinet Media Center has highlighted the Major Omar Suleiman Axis project in Alexandria Governorate as one of the strategic infrastructure projects being implemented as part of the state's plan to upgrade the road network and traffic corridors, supporting both urban and economic development goals.

The project is part of ongoing efforts to expand modern transportation corridors aimed at easing traffic congestion, improving mobility between key areas, supporting urban expansion, and accommodating the growing number of vehicles. These improvements are expected to enhance traffic flow and reduce travel times.

Direct Link Between the Desert Road, Airport and North Coast

According to official data, the Major Omar Suleiman Axis extends for 20 kilometers and provides direct connectivity between the Cairo–Alexandria Desert Road, Alexandria International Airport, Borg El Arab City, and the North Western Coast. This positions the corridor as a key route supporting transportation and mobility across the region.

Dual Carriageway With Higher Traffic Capacity

The project is designed to accommodate increasing traffic volumes between the Desert Road and the International Coastal Road through the construction of a dual carriageway featuring 6 traffic lanes in each direction. The expanded capacity is expected to improve traffic movement while enhancing road safety standards.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Works

The development includes the construction of 4 flyovers, 2 bridges above the high-speed electric train route, and 5 surface bridges over waterways. The project also includes covering the Palestine Drain over a length of 2.3 kilometers to improve corridor efficiency and ensure smoother traffic flow along the route.

Once operational, the project is expected to strengthen connectivity between Alexandria's main roads and transport corridors while supporting movement to industrial, residential, and tourism zones. The development is set to enhance the overall efficiency of the road network and meet future development requirements.
