Molds Division Head: Localizing Die Manufacturing Cuts Car Costs, Begins Tech Partnership with Turkey
Dr. Mohamed Amin, head of the Molds and Dies Division, confirmed that localizing die manufacturing in Egypt reduces the production cost of cars and feeder industries. The division, established in September 2024, has launched a technology partnership with Turkey to transfer advanced expertise. The move aims to build an integrated industrial base covering design, manufacturing, and maintenance, reducing reliance on imported production tools.
Dr. Mohamed Amin, head of the Molds and Dies Division at the Engineering Industries Chamber of the Egyptian Federation of Industries, said that localizing die manufacturing in Egypt can reduce the production cost of cars and their feeder industries, alongside launching a technology partnership with Turkey to transfer advanced expertise in this field.
Why Are Dies the Cornerstone of Car Manufacturing?
Molds and dies may not be visible in the car you see on the road, but they stand behind the manufacturing of a large number of its components. This industry is the backbone of any real production line, as it initiates the journey of manufacturing thousands of parts used in new cars, home appliances, and medical products. Localizing this industry means building an integrated industrial base inside Egypt — design, engineering, manufacturing, and maintenance.
Mohamed Amin explained that advancing national industry doesn't stop at manufacturing the final product, but begins with developing the core industries that production lines depend on. He added that companies working in automotive feeder industries need production tools locally, especially with the diversity of components and differing designs and specifications required.
A Strong Local Base for Automotive Feeder Industries
Egypt possessing local capabilities in designing, manufacturing, and maintaining molds and dies can help auto parts companies reduce production time and cost, as well as accelerate product development and respond to the needs of car assembly companies. The division head points out that localizing this industry doesn't mean only manufacturing the die inside Egypt, but building integrated capabilities that allow forming a base of companies capable of serving the automotive sector and other industries.
The Molds and Dies Division was established in September 2024 under the umbrella of the Engineering Industries Chamber, and has begun moving towards building international partnerships and benefiting from advanced expertise in die manufacturing. The first step heads towards Turkey, in a technology partnership aimed at transferring knowledge and localizing advanced technologies.
The Turkish Partnership: A Gateway for Technology Transfer
The partnership with Turkey isn't just a commercial agreement. Turkey possesses long experience in manufacturing and exporting dies to global car companies. Benefiting from this expertise could shorten years of local trial. Open the door for Egyptian companies to cooperate with major brands. The ultimate goal: reducing car costs for the Egyptian consumer by cutting dependence on imported production tools.
The Egyptian market awaits tangible results. Localizing dies could be the key to increasing the local component ratio in locally assembled cars, and thus lowering prices in the medium term. The first step has already begun.
