Kia Cerato Returns to Egypt With Local Production — But Likely an Older Generation
Egyptian International Motors, Kia's agent in Egypt, has confirmed preparations to locally assemble the Kia Cerato and Kia Seltos for the first time. The Cerato is expected to be built in an older generation rather than the latest model, mirroring Hyundai Elantra's local strategy. The last Cerato sold in Egypt was the Grand Cerato with a 1.6-litre 130 hp engine, priced from 1.25 million EGP in 2024. Local manufacturing could lower the final price and boost Kia's competitiveness in the compact sedan segment.
Kia Cerato is coming back to Egypt — this time built locally. The Egyptian International Motors, Kia's agent in Egypt, confirmed the company is preparing to assemble and manufacture new cars domestically for the first time, with Cerato named as the second model after the Kia Seltos. Technical details remain undisclosed.
Cerato or K3? The Name Returns, the Generation Is Unclear
The Cerato badge was retired globally and replaced by Kia K3 in markets including Egypt. With the old name now confirmed for a comeback, observers expect local production to target an earlier Cerato generation rather than the latest model — a pattern already seen with the locally assembled Hyundai Elantra, which is built in an older generation for Egypt. The agent has not confirmed this officially.
Grand Cerato: The Specs Egypt Said Goodbye To
The last Cerato sold in Egypt carried the Grand Cerato nameplate and was offered in three trims priced between 1.25 million and 1.45 million EGP in 2024. It packed a 1.6-litre engine producing 130 hp and 192 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed automatic driving the front wheels. Zero to 100 km/h took 12 seconds, with fuel consumption rated at 6.9 litres per 100 km.
Safety and Equipment That Defined Its Segment
Safety kit on the Grand Cerato included ABS, EBD, an immobiliser, front airbags and electronic stability control. Exterior features covered LED headlights and taillights, rear parking sensors, an electric sunroof, side mirrors with LED indicators and electric folding, plus 15-inch wheels. Inside, it offered an 8-inch screen, USB ports, Bluetooth, cruise control, rear-vent air conditioning and a multi-function steering wheel. Push-button start, remote engine start, leather on the steering wheel and gear lever. A rear armrest rounded out the package.
What Local Manufacturing Means for Egypt's Market
Local assembly could cut the final price and shorten delivery times compared with full imports. With Kia prices under sustained pressure in Egypt, a locally built Cerato could carve out a competitive spot in the compact sedan segment. The final call on generation and timing still sits with Kia and its local agent — and any official announcement will shape how the new Cerato stacks up against the Toyota Corolla and Hyundai Elantra AD.
