Loose Truck Loads on Egypt's Highways: Up to EGP 15,000 Fine and License Suspension
A fine reaching 15,000 Egyptian pounds. That's what awaits any truck driver whose load spills onto the road, whether it's a brick or a stray stone, turning fleeting moments into a real traffic catastrophe on highways.
Falling cargo can strike a vehicle following directly behind, or force its driver to swerve abruptly to avoid collision, endangering the lives of all road users in the process. Egyptian law has drawn clear boundaries for this violation, starting at a minimum penalty of five thousand pounds and reaching fifteen thousand as the upper ceiling, according to the text of Article (72 bis 2) of the Traffic Law.
What Does the Law Say About Unsecured Loads?
Article (72 bis 2) stipulates penalizing every vehicle driver who causes road pollution by throwing waste, construction debris, or any other objects onto the roadway. The penalty also covers anyone operating a vehicle emitting annoying noises, thick smoke, exhaust not conforming to environmental standards, or unpleasant odors.
Flying or falling cargo from a vehicle falls directly within the scope of this violation. The clause also includes leaking flammable materials, any substances harmful to public health, or those affecting the road's ability to function properly for traffic. The punishment isn't limited to a financial fine alone — it can extend to much harsher penalties in specific situations.
The Fine Doubles on Repeat Offenses.. and Your License at Risk
Repeating the violation changes the equation entirely. If a driver commits the same act within six months, the prescribed fine doubles without hesitation.
More critical, committing the violation a third time within a single year leads to the suspension of the driving license for a full year. This is a strict punishment reflecting the severity of the action against public safety and sending a clear signal that legal responsibility is absolute.
Smart and Human Monitoring Escalated on Roads
Traffic authorities don't rely on chance to catch these violations. The network of fixed and mobile smart radars is equipped with advanced technologies capable of detecting violations with high precision and immediately transmitting them to operations rooms.
Intensive security deployment on main roads and axes strengthens the authorities' capability to catch offenders in real time. This integrated system aims to achieve traffic safety and deter any attempt to tamper with road integrity or endanger the lives of others, particularly on highways connecting governorates.
