Fierce Bidding in Egypt's Special License Plate Auction: One Plate Reaches EGP 2.5 Million

The Egyptian traffic scene is witnessing a new wave of fierce competition for special vehicle license plates through an online public auction organized by the General Administration of Traffic Information Systems under the Ministry of Interior. The second most notable plate is "F 5," which currently stands at EGP 2,000,000, also contested by two individuals.

The third plate, "R W N 1," has attracted four bidders, pushing its price to EGP 1,100,000. Meanwhile, the fourth plate "A G 5" is currently valued at EGP 400,000 with a single bidder, and the fifth and final plate "A A M 11" has reached EGP 350,000, also with one participant. The competition reflects a strong appetite for rare and symbolic plate combinations among Egyptian car owners.

Auction Revenues Surpass EGP 300 Million Since 2017

The financial success of these auctions extends beyond individual bids. The Ministry of Interior previously announced that total sales from special license plates since the launch of the electronic auction system in mid-2017 have exceeded EGP 300 million. All proceeds are directed to the "Tahya Misr" Fund, providing social and economic support while fueling the competitive spirit of the auctions. This underscores the dual benefit of the initiative: generating substantial revenue for national causes while satisfying the demand for unique plates.

The Most Expensive Plate in Egyptian History: A Record Sale

Despite the impressive figures in the current auction, they remain far from the all-time record. In March of the previous year, the plate "M E R 555" was sold for an astonishing EGP 50 million, earning the title of the most expensive license plate in Egyptian auction history. This record highlights the deep cultural and aspirational value Egyptians place on these plates, viewing them as symbols of prestige and rarity in the automotive world.
