Egypt's New Car Market Surges in June with 25.58% Registration Jump After May Decline
Egypt's new car market witnessed a strong recovery in June 2026, as compulsory vehicle insurance data revealed a significant 25.58% increase in registrations compared to the previous month of May. This rebound comes after a period of relative slowdown, confirming renewed activity in the market driven by rising demand across several key segments.
Registration Figures Signal Market Improvement
The total number of newly registered vehicles during June reached 70,497 units, compared to 56,141 units in May, marking a difference of over 14,000 vehicles. This clear improvement highlights the market's ability to absorb higher volumes after a downturn in the previous month, which saw a 10.7% decline.
Motorcycles Lead the Growth
The surge in motorcycle registrations was the most prominent growth driver, with the segment recording 43,461 units in June. Passenger car registrations also rose to 21,144 vehicles, while commercial vehicle registrations climbed to 3,430 units, indicating a broad-based recovery across multiple sectors rather than being confined to a single category.
Newer Models Dominate the Market Share
2026 model-year vehicles accounted for the largest share of registrations, totaling 49,261 units, reflecting continued consumer preference for newer cars. In contrast, 2027 models made a notable appearance with 8,737 registrations, confirming an accelerating pace of new model introductions to the market and strengthening expectations for this trend to continue in the coming months.
Shifts in Brand Rankings
June also brought a significant change in the ranking of leading automotive brands, as Chevrolet reclaimed the top spot overall with a total of 3,259 vehicles, ahead of Nissan, which came in second with 2,158 units. In the electric vehicle segment, BYD continued its leadership for the fourth consecutive month, further solidifying its growing presence in the Egyptian market.
