Egypt Interior Ministry License Plate Auction Sees Fierce Competition as Prices Exceed EGP 1.2 Million
An electronic public auction for a selection of distinctive vehicle license plates is currently underway from July 4 to July 8, hosted on the "Lohtak.com" platform, which is supervised by the General Administration of Traffic Information Systems at the Egyptian Ministry of Interior. The online bidding process continues until the evening of Wednesday, July 8, with intense competition among bidders vying for the most unique plates.
Top Plates and Highest Bids in the Current Auction
The plate "B W D 777" is leading the pack in the current auction, with its price reaching EGP 1.1 million so far, and four bidders competing for ownership. Not far behind, the plate "S Y D 4" is the highest-priced plate in the auction, currently standing at EGP 1,200,004, with three individuals competing for its usage rights. The prices are expected to climb further as the auction closing deadline approaches.
Total Sales Surpass EGP 300 Million
The Ministry of Interior previously announced that total license plate sales since the launch of the electronic auction service in mid-2017 have exceeded the EGP 300 million mark. All proceeds from these auctions are directed to support the Tahya Misr Fund, making them a significant source of funding for national development projects. This auction is part of a series of periodic events that offer citizens the chance to acquire distinctive plates with unique numbers and symbols.
The Most Expensive Plate in Auction History
Despite the high prices in the current auction, the record for the most expensive plate in the history of license plate auctions on the "Lohtak.com" platform is still held by plate "M Y R 555", which was sold in March of last year for EGP 50 million. This sale reflects the substantial demand for distinctive plates in the Egyptian market. Enthusiasts and investors continue to actively participate in these auctions, viewing unique plates as a long-term investment due to their appreciating value.
