The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) has intensified its inspection campaigns targeting fuel stations and storage facilities across the country, aiming to monitor the circulation of petroleum products, prevent manipulation, and crack down on illegal trade in subsidized fuel.

61,000 Liters of Smuggled Fuel Seized

The EGPC confirmed that during the first week of May, regulatory campaigns at fuel stations resulted in multiple violations, including the seizure of 61,000 liters of smuggled fuel valued at approximately 3 million Egyptian pounds.

Key Violations by Governorate

In Matrouh Governorate, authorities uncovered an unlicensed fuel station illegally mixing petroleum products in underground tanks. A tanker truck carrying 15,000 liters of fuel was also seized; the driver fled the scene but the vehicle was impounded. According to the committee, the perpetrators tracked the vehicle and chased it with weapons before removing a tracking device from the tanker and draining the fuel.

In Gharbia Governorate, 46,000 liters of petroleum products—including 80 and 92 octane gasoline and diesel—were seized from seven fuel stations for quantity manipulation and black market sales. Additionally, a storage facility was found holding 270,000 liters of gasoline and diesel exceeding the book balance and unrecorded in official logs, intended for illegal distribution. A shortage in some strategic products was also detected.

In Qalyubia, Damietta, Gharbia, Sharqia, Beheira, and Alexandria, authorities inspected 40 fuel stations and uncovered tampering violations. In Qalyubia, calibration issues with a 92-octane gasoline dispenser caused a shortfall of 2 liters or more per 20-liter container.
