Ambitions to Host Global Events
The talks focused on mechanisms for Egypt to host the world's biggest motorsport events, strengthening its position as a premier destination for international sporting occasions in the coming period. Both sides explored organizing local and international championships that meet global standards, aiming to spread the sport and attract more participants and visitors from across the globe.
Desert Rallies and Infrastructure
The meeting reviewed joint plans to develop desert rallies, capitalizing on Egypt's natural advantages to boost tourism and open new avenues for sports investment. They also discussed enhancing Egypt's presence on the FIA calendar by including world rounds held on Egyptian soil.
Attendees included Khaled Fouda, the President's Advisor for Local Development, Ihab Lahita, Club Treasurer, and Raouf Gafar, Board Member and Head of the Racing and Rallies Committee.
Governmental Support for Sports Tourism
Minister Nabil affirmed the ministry's commitment to expanding partnerships with national institutions to support sports tourism and organize international events that promote Egypt as a tourist destination. He emphasized the country's goal of becoming a regional hub for major championships.
In an official statement, Raouf Gafar highlighted one of the key proposals: hosting the famous Mille Miglia race, the "Thousand Miles," one of the oldest classic and historic car races in the world, blending sport with tourism promotion.
Gafar added that the club plans to organize this race for the first time in Egypt in 2027, with dozens of cars from European and Arab countries. The minister promised full support, coordinating with the tourism, interior, and finance ministries to ease vehicle entry, secure the route, and provide logistics.
In a related development, the minister revealed the government's intention to host Formula 1 races in Egypt. The project requires massive investments reaching tens of millions of dollars, and many investors and international financiers have already shown interest, with feasibility studies underway.
